Your Nasrid Palaces time and what happens if you are late
Every ticket carries a time slot for the Nasrid Palaces. Entry runs in half-hour slots of about 300 people, and you can only go in during your slot. If you turn up after it has ended, you lose the right to see the Palaces, with no change or refund. You can see the rest of the site (Alcazaba, Generalife, gardens) at any time during daytime hours.
Plan your route around that time and leave a margin: it is a fair walk from the Generalife to the Palaces.
Where to buy and how far ahead
The Board calls its website the only official and guaranteed channel. Its own channels are:
- Official website: tickets.alhambra-patronato.es, until 23:59 the day before.
- Phone: +34 858 889 002.
- Machines at the Access Pavilion, Corral del Carbón, El Bañuelo and Dar al-Horra.
- Ticket office, same day only and subject to availability, at least one hour before your Palaces slot.
Each person can buy a maximum of 10 tickets a month. Once confirmed, the date and time cannot be changed, and refunds only apply if the visit could not take place for reasons on the Board's side.
The Board does not publish how far ahead tickets sell out. In practice, for spring, summer, bank holidays and weekends, book as soon as your dates are fixed.
Be wary of sites that copy the official one and charge more.
Tickets sold out? What to do
- Keep checking the official site. Part of the quota is held for institutional programmes and goes back on sale if unused, so a sold-out day can reopen.
- Same-day ticket office. It sells whatever is left for that day; go early.
- Switch ticket type. If the General is gone, pair the Palaces Night Visit with daytime Gardens, or try Alhambra Experiences or the Dobla de Oro, which draw on different quotas.
- Guided tour with ticket included. Agencies with licensed guides hold group tickets. They cost more than the ticket alone but often have places when the official site does not. Check that the Nasrid Palaces are included and at what time.
- Granada Card. The city council's tourist card includes the Alhambra with a set date and time: the General on the 48 and 72-hour cards, the Palaces Night Visit on the 24-hour card, and no Palaces on the Jardines version. It adds other monuments and city buses. No changes or refunds.
What to bring and how long you need
- Original ID card or passport for every adult. It is required to enter and can be checked at any point. If you have a discount, bring the proof too.
- Your QR ticket, printed or on your phone. Children carry their own.
- Comfortable shoes and water: there is a lot of walking and some steep slopes.
The Board estimates about three hours for the General visit. With time for photos and the Palace of Charles V, allow half a day.
Getting there
By city bus, the Board lists these lines:
- C30: Alhambra and city centre (Plaza Isabel la Católica).
- C32: Alhambra and Albaicín.
- C35: Cemetery, Barranco del Abogado and city centre (Plaza Isabel la Católica).
For connections from elsewhere in the city, see movilidadgranada.com. On foot, you walk up from Plaza Nueva along Cuesta de Gomérez, a fairly steep climb.
Autumn 2026 notices
After the August 2026 earthquakes, the Alcazaba reopened on 23 September with a route adapted for safety and conservation. Casa Horno de Oro and Dar al-Horra Palace remain closed for safety reasons, and the Patio del Cuarto Dorado is partly covered while its roof is restored. Check the notices on the official website before you go.
