When do Zaragoza's Christmas lights come on in 2026?

2026 date: from 20 November. That is what the tender for the 2026-2027 Christmas lighting contract sets, with the lights due to come down on 7 January 2027. Every day they will be on from 17:30 (or sunset) until 1:00 (Zaragoza City Council). The exact day, time and format of the switch-on will be announced in November: check the City Council website or our Zaragoza events calendar.

2025 for reference: the lights came on on Saturday 29 November at 18:30, for the first time in Plaza de España, with a concert and countdown watched by more than 60,000 people across Plaza de España, Paseo de la Independencia and Plaza Aragón (Zaragoza City Council). That afternoon Independencia, the Puente de Piedra and calle Don Jaime were closed to traffic, and the tram ran in loops (Zaragoza City Council).

Best streets for lights

New for 2026, according to the contract: a new canopy of lights on calle Alfonso I, lighting in Plaza de España and a new light corridor from Plaza de San Miguel to the church of Santiago. The 21-metre cone-shaped tree, the light canopies on Paseo de la Independencia, the lighting of Plaza del Pilar and City Hall, and the Puente de Piedra stay. There will also be 3D figures at street level in places such as Puerta del Carmen (Zaragoza City Council).

What 2025 looked like: a light corridor of almost 4 km from El Rabal to the Batallador fountain in Parque Grande, with an 8-metre light nativity at that fountain, giant angels on the Puente de Piedra and a bow of lights on the City Hall façade (Zaragoza City Council).

Walking route: Plaza del Pilar, calle Alfonso I, Plaza de España and Paseo de la Independencia. For the full corridor to Parque Grande, allow much longer.

Christmas bus to see the lights

In 2025 the City Council launched an electric Christmas sightseeing bus, with a one-hour route through the lit streets and a theatrical guide. It left from calle Don Jaime: 6 to 8 December and Saturdays 13 and 20 December at 19:00, and daily from 26 December to 4 January (except the 31st and 1st) at 19:30. It cost €10 (Zaragoza City Council). It ran 90% full, so if it returns in 2026, book early. 2026 dates are not published.

Christmas fair and markets

Muestra Navideña, Plaza del Pilar. This is the heart of Christmas in Zaragoza. In 2025-2026 it held its 16th edition, open all day, with market stalls, an ice rink, carousels, Santa's house, sledges and about 80 events on its stage (Zaragoza City Council). 2026 dates and hours are not published.

Artisan gourmet Christmas market, Parque Grande. In 2025 it had 20 stalls of Aragonese products with protected designation of origin at the park entrance, open from 29 November Friday to Sunday and, during school holidays, daily except 25 December and 1 January. 2026 dates are not published.

Note that there are works in Plaza del Pilar: the refurbishment of the Goya Fountain starts after the October 2026 Pilar festival and that of the Hispanidad Fountain after Christmas; both are due to finish in the first half of 2027 (Zaragoza City Council).

Plaza del Pilar nativity and other nativity scenes

Belén de Judea, Plaza del Pilar. This is the city's big nativity scene: according to the City Council, the largest life-size one in Europe, with more than 100 figures that also recreate traditional Aragonese trades (Zaragoza City Council). More than 443,000 people visited it in 2025-2026 (Zaragoza City Council). 2026 dates and hours are not published.

Central Market nativity. Aragon's nativity association builds an Aragonese scene of more than a hundred figures in the market basement. In 2025 it opened until 22 December from 11:00 to 14:00, and from 23 December to 5 January 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:30 to 20:00; it was closed on 25 December, 1 January and Sundays (Zaragoza City Council).

Light show in Parque Grande

In 2025-2026, the Rosaleda garden in Parque Grande hosted Boreal, by Naturaleza Encendida: a 45-minute walk of light, sound and video mapping with more than forty Arctic animal figures, from 5 December to 6 January, 18:00 to 22:15, from €13.50 (Zaragoza City Council). The 2026 show has not been announced.

New Year's Eve in Plaza del Pilar

Plaza del Pilar hosts the official countdown, by the City Hall clock. The 2025 programme for reference (Zaragoza City Council):

  • Music: a live band from 23:00 to 23:45.
  • Grapes: the City Council handed out 3,000 bags of twelve grapes in the City Hall entrance hall, an hour before midnight.
  • Chimes and fireworks: after the chimes, a fireworks display and music until 2:00.
  • Safe point: under the City Hall arcades, 23:00 to 2:00.

The 2026 programme has not been announced.

Three Kings Parade 2027

It will be on the afternoon of Tuesday 5 January 2027. Time and route are not published. 2026 for reference (Zaragoza City Council):

  • 16:00: the Three Kings arrive at Parque Grande and greet the public on the Batallador steps.
  • 17:30: sponsors' caravan.
  • 18:00: the parade leaves from CEIP Joaquín Costa school.
  • Route: General Mayandía, Anselmo Clavé, Paseo de Teruel, Puerta del Carmen, César Augusto, Coso and Alfonso I to Plaza del Pilar, where the Kings visit the Belén de Judea.

More than 200,000 people attended in 2026. The route changed that year because of works in Plaza de San Miguel, so check the 2027 route when it is published.
