From Bilbao airport: the direct A3720 bus

The A3720 line run by Autobuses La Unión links Bilbao airport with Vitoria-Gasteiz without going through central Bilbao. According to Aena, the stop for Vitoria is on the arrivals level.

  • Price: €15 from Bilbao airport to Vitoria-Gasteiz. It is a standard single with no discounts except for Spanish large-family cards (20% or 50%). Children under 6 travel free but need a ticket.
  • Where to buy: on the La Unión website or app (plus a €1.50 booking fee on tickets over €9), at the ticket offices and machines in Bilbao Intermodal and Vitoria bus stations, or on board with cash, a bank card or a Bat, Barik or Mugi transport card if seats are left. La Unión recommends buying ahead to secure a seat.
  • Stops in Vitoria: the bus station (Plaza Euskaltzaindia, in the Lakua district) and Calle Cadena y Eleta, next to the New Cathedral, right in the centre. If you are staying in the centre, ride on to Cadena y Eleta.
  • Luggage: up to 20 kg in the hold, free. Bikes, surfboards or skis, €5 supplement.
  • Changes and cancellations: up to 2 hours before departure, with a 10% to 30% charge depending on notice.

July and August have a summer timetable with more departures. This bus cannot be used from the airport to central Bilbao: that is what Bizkaibus is for.

Alternative: via Bilbao, with Bizkaibus and La Unión

If you land and the next A3720 is a long way off, you can go via Bilbao:

  1. Bizkaibus A3247 from the airport to Bilbao Intermodal bus station: according to Aena, it leaves the arrivals level every 15 minutes from 6:10 am to 11:40 pm. La Unión puts the ride between Intermodal and the airport at about 35 minutes. Fares, stops and the Barik card are in our Bilbao airport to city centre guide.
  2. La Unión A3714 from Bilbao Intermodal to Vitoria by motorway: on working days there are several departures an hour, the first at 6:00 am and the last at 11:59 pm, according to its 2026 winter timetable; there are fewer at weekends. Check times and fares at autobuseslaunion.com.

That means two tickets and a change, so it is only worth it if the wait for the A3720 is long.

Taxi from Bilbao airport

The rank is on the arrivals level and the service is run by the Femade taxi association. Aena publishes an approximate fare to Vitoria of €144 on working days and €158 on public holidays. The final amount is set by the meter. You can book at taxiaeropuertobilbao.com or on +34 944 800 909.

Four bus tickets cost €60, so a taxi only pays off if you land after the last A3720 or have a lot of luggage.

From Vitoria airport (Foronda)

Vitoria airport is 8 km from the city, according to the City Council, which lists routes to Barcelona (Volotea), to Seville, Alicante, Málaga, Palma, Brussels-Charleroi and Milan-Bergamo (Ryanair) and, in summer, to Gran Canaria (Binter); several are seasonal. There is a tourist information desk in the terminal.

A3720 bus, booking required. Since 1 July 2025 Vitoria airport has been served by La Unión's A3720 line, which only stops at Foronda if there is a booking or a ticket bought in advance. As the City Council puts it, every flight is covered by this line, with an on-request stop at the airport.

  • Price: €3 from Vitoria airport to central Vitoria-Gasteiz.
  • Journey time: about 15 minutes to the bus station and 30 minutes to the centre, according to Aena.
  • Buses passing Foronda towards Vitoria (winter 2026, approximate times, these buses come from Bilbao): 7:15 am (Monday to Friday, working days), 7:45 am (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays), 9:35 am, 11:35 am, 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm, 8:30 pm, 10:30 pm and 12:45 am.
  • Extra services: La Unión adds airport-to-Vitoria departures on specific days, timed to flights; the published table runs until 24 October 2026. Check the one for your dates at autobuseslaunion.com.

Book on the La Unión website or app before you fly: without a booking the bus does not call at the airport. If you plan to buy on landing, make sure you have mobile data, for example with an eSIM.

Taxi. There is a rank in the arrivals area, and Aena gives the Radio Taxi number: +34 945 273 500. Two taxi companies operate in the city, Radio Taxi Gasteiz and Grupo Celedón. Neither Aena nor the City Council publishes a fare for the trip. For reference, these are Vitoria-Gasteiz's urban taxi fares approved for 2026 by the Basque Government:

Fare When it applies Flag fall (includes 1.2 km) Per km
1 working days, 7:00 am to 10:00 pm €4.71 €1.26
2 Sundays and holidays; Saturdays 7:00 am to 10:00 pm; working days 10:00 pm to 7:00 am; 24 and 31 December €5.76 €1.80
3 10:00 pm to 7:00 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of holidays €6.18 €1.80

We could not confirm whether the trip from Foronda is charged at this urban fare or carries a supplement: ask the driver.

There is also a 10:30 am departure on weekdays from the University (passing Lakua bus station at 10:48 am) and a 10:45 am one at weekends and on holidays from the bus station; both reach the airport around noon. All of them call at the bus station about 15 minutes after leaving the centre. La Unión advises choosing a bus that gets you to the airport with at least an hour to spare. The 4:30 am, 8:30 am, 11:45 am, 1:45 pm and 3:45 pm departures also stop at Vitoria airport if booked.

Which option suits you

  • Flying into Bilbao by day: the A3720. If the next one is more than an hour away, consider Bizkaibus to Intermodal and La Unión on to Vitoria.
  • Landing in Bilbao after 11:40 pm: there is no direct bus left. Take a taxi (about €144-158, per Aena) or spend the night in Bilbao and take a morning bus; if you stay there, look for a place near Intermodal station or in central Bilbao.
  • Flying into Vitoria: book the A3720 before you fly, because it does not stop at the airport without a booking. If there is no bus at your time, take a taxi.
  • Family or group with luggage from Bilbao: even with four tickets (€60), the bus is cheaper than a taxi.
  • Touring Rioja Alavesa or rural Álava: a hire car picked up at the airport may suit you better. Bear in mind that Vitoria has a Low Emission Zone and only residents can park in the medieval quarter.
