The free hour: 8:30 to 9:30
The official website confirms it: Monday to Saturday the visit is free from 8:30 to 9:30, except on days with special celebrations.
- No groups: they are not allowed, so it is quiet.
- It is shorter: entry closes at 9:20 and staff start clearing the building.
- Not on Sundays: Sunday mornings are paid.
Arrive at 8:30 and head first to the mihrab, which gets crowded later.
Climbing the bell tower
It is the highest viewpoint in Córdoba. You go up in groups of 22 people at most, in 30 minute slots every half hour from 9:30 to 18:30 (fewer on Sundays). Only about 260 to 300 people a day get up, so book ahead.
Narrow stairs climb to about 45 metres. It is off limits for children under 7, pregnant women and people with vertigo, heart or breathing problems or reduced mobility, and medium or large backpacks are not allowed. Arrive early: slots start on time.
El Alma de Córdoba night tour
Still running in 2026: a guided route of about one hour that opens with a projection in the Courtyard of the Orange Trees and continues inside with light and sound. Up to 100 people per slot, nine languages and no photos or filming.
- Price: €25; €18 for over 65s, people with disabilities, students up to 26 and children from 7. Free for under 7s.
- October 2026: most days at 21:00 and 22:30; no slots on Sundays.
- November and December: the general calendar lists 20:00 and 21:30, but the official tool currently shows no November slots. Check first.
What to see inside
- Courtyard of the Orange Trees, the entrance, next to the tower.
- The forest of columns with two-tone arches from Abd al-Rahman I's mosque and its extensions (Abd al-Rahman II, al-Hakam II and Almanzor).
- The mihrab and maqsura of al-Hakam II.
- Villaviciosa Chapel, the first Christian main chapel, and the Royal Chapel.
- Main Chapel, transept and choir, the Renaissance and Baroque cathedral in the middle.
Start at the Patio de San Eulogio (Calle Torrijos at Calle Amador de los Ríos), with models and archaeological remains. Audio guides are rented there, until one hour before closing.
How long do you need?
Allow an hour and a half to two hours, plus 30 minutes for the tower and as much again for San Eulogio. The 50 minutes of the free slot cover the highlights, not a slow visit.
Combining it with the Alcázar and the Jewish Quarter
Everything is a few minutes' walk apart:
- 8:30, free entry; then San Eulogio and the tower.
- Mid-morning, the Jewish Quarter: Calleja de las Flores, Calle de los Judíos, the Synagogue and the Almodóvar Gate.
- Midday, the Roman Bridge, opposite the Puerta del Puente.
- Afternoon, the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, towards the river. We do not give its hours or prices because we could not confirm them on its official website.
- Evening, El Alma de Córdoba, if there is a slot.
The Mosque-Cathedral is at Calle Cardenal Herrero 1. Buses 3 and 12 stop at Puerta del Puente and there is a taxi rank on Calle Torrijos. Step-free access is through the Puerta de Deanes.
